Applecross is less than 2 hours drive from Inverness but your journey time can vary depending on traffic and how many times you stop to breathe in the views. Parts of the road are single track with passing places. The rules of the road are to let cars driving faster than you overtake and try and give priority to cars coming up the hill!
From Inverness there are two choices, the shorter route is to take the signs to Lochcarron, through Kishorn, taking the turn-off signed to Applecross, over the hill road Beallich-Na-Ba (Pass of the Cows) for an exciting drive over the most stunning single track scenery in Scotland and highest pass in the UK.
For the faint hearted (or the winter alternative) at the Achnasheen junction take the road through Torridon and Shieldaig and follow the coastal road winding its way south to Applecross; this avoids the high pass but the driving is as equally dramatic!
In Applecross, continue south past the Inn on Shore Street and through Milltown, heading up and over the hill, take time to enjoy the amazing views of Skye, drive down the hill past Applecross Primary School on your left, before the bridge and sea level at Camusterrach, take the first Right turn and follow to the road end, Pier Cottage sits to the west on the old jetty.
